Why Don’t More People Have Solar?

In our 13 years in the solar business we have spoken with many homeowners about why they haven’t gone solar sooner, even when they have exorbitant energy bills.

The two main reasons we find people don’t get solar sooner are:

#1 They think it’s too expensive.

#2 They are waiting for better technology.

Regarding solar being too expensive, it’s really too bad that this is the perception many people have. The reality is that solar is a great investment and when financed can cost you the same monthly amount that you would have paid for your utility bills until your loan is paid off. Once the loan is paid off (typically for these types of loans 15 years or less), you have free energy, (assuming your energy bill usage stays the same).

For those that are waiting for better technology, you’re missing out on the savings while you wait. Yes, technology is always improving, but the technology of solar panels these days has come along way, and solar panels are much more efficient than they were even 5 years ago. While you wait for technology to improve, you are putting money in the hands of the utility companies, rather than in your own pocket. Typical ROI for the systems we sell is 5 to 7 years.
