Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s) have been a big deal across the state of California, and particularly in Long Beach. With a housing shortage across the state, ADU’s allow for additional housing units to be built in cities that have simply run out of space.
On January 1, 2020, new State law took effect to create opportunities for accessory dwelling units (ADUs), also referred to as “backyard homes,” “second units,” “in-law units,” or “granny flats.” Beyond traditional market rate construction and affordable housing developments, ADUs provide an alternative, flexible housing model that can help address home supply and affordability in California.

One of the requirements for ADU’s is that they must have solar installed on them. To meet the minimum requirement in most cases, the solar systems can be as small as 6 solar panels, to as many as 12 solar panels. Current pricing for an ADU solar system is $9,000 to $14,000.
